To whom it may concern:

In the fall of 2006, Julie Johnson–Holland from Sierra Design Studio helped us with a major renovation of our home at 67 Valley Vista in Mammoth Lakes. We had purchased the home a year earlier and were hoping to make some changes on the home before the ski season of 2006–2007. We contacted Julie over the summer, and she moved quickly to start the plans for the renovation.

After meeting with us for a short consultation, Julie agreed to do the renovation that fall and have the work completed by Thanksgiving. The short timeline was made even more difficult by the fact that we reside in Los Angeles, and all the business would have to be conducted from a distance. Julie reassured us we would be able to do this project while living in Los Angeles.

About a month after our meeting, we received a large, comprehensive packet from Julie containing plans for a new kitchen with custom cabinetry, tile samples and cabinet designs for 4 refurbished bathrooms, furniture designs, paint colors for the entire home, etc. We were amazed at how quickly the plans came together. Julie did an amazing job of designing a home that fit our lifestyle and our taste. In addition to all the plans, she had already received estimates on many of the items. The prices were reasonable and in line with the budget we had discussed.

The work on the house was completed by Thanksgiving, and we love how the house turned out. Julie kept in contact with us during the project by phone and e–mail. We made our decisions on designs and materials in LA, and she made sure they were carried out in Mammoth Lakes. She continued to help us after the renovations with replacing the front door and buying some custom bedding. Julie was wonderful to work with. I never thought a project this large could be so painless. Please feel free to contact me for further information or additional questions.

To whom it may concern,

We have used Julie to extensively remodel our Snowcreek condo and recommend her highly whether it was supervising and making design suggestions for the remodel or selecting furnishings which we still use her for from time to time. Subsequently we often receive comments whether from friends who use it or guests visiting how tastefully done it is. When we first met I brought catalogs of doors, hardware, etc that we had used in the past on houses we'd flipped in Santa Barbara for suggestions only to find Julie had already taken out her own sets of the same catalogs. If and when we do another project in Mammoth Julie would be our first call.

My design relationship with Julie Johnson–Holland began in 2004 when my husband and I suddenly became owners of a brand new empty townhouse in Mammoth, four hours from our home. Her name was given to us by some friends, and despite the fact that my tastes were modern and her design store sold mountain–cabin furniture, we hired her on the spot. I e–mailed photos to her of three pieces of furniture I wanted to decorate around, and Julie did all of the rest of the work––splendidly! She sent us pictures and prices, and we approved the whole package from home. With a beautiful and elegant blend of style and comfort, Julie's furniture and rug selections met all of our needs, her space planning was terrific, and her proposal was on budget!

About a year later, we had an accident that required repainting a wall in the guest bedroom. I asked her if she would handle that project for me, and she mailed me a proposal to subtly change some wall colors in each room, along with sample paint–color chips glued to a floor–plan of my unit, and a price. Without any hesitation, I said, "yes," and the next time we visited, we were THRILLED with the results!

Shortly after that, we were ready to invest in art for the walls. Armed with only a small budget and the guideline that we loved nature photographs, Julie came through for us again. On our next visit to our townhouse, we found stunning and unique photographs from various local professionals hanging on our walls. With two exceptions, we kept all of the pieces.

I have complete faith in Julie. She is talented and hard–working, and, most importantly, I feel that she hears what I need, and then responds with thoughtful and creative solutions. I enthusiastically recommend Julie to one and all––she makes the design process easy and enjoyable, and in my opinion, her results are simply exquisite! I wish her well in her new endeavor!

I’ve been working with Julie Johnson since my husband and I purchased a vacation home in Mammoth over 7 years ago. Julie has a keen eye for the decorative without compromising the functional aspects of home improvements.

Decorating and caring for a 2nd home is more difficult because you’re more often than not, doing it by phone. Working with Julie allowed us to get work done on our house without us having to be there. She was able to oversee all aspects of construction and decorating and it was always exciting to see what had been completed since our last visit.

Also, having grown up in Southern California, we relied on Julie to make recommendations for both the interior and exterior of our home with regard to weather conditions and climate. Living in Newport Beach, we’ve never had to take snow or woodpeckers into consideration!

Julie is a lot of fun, and a pleasure to work with…and our results have always been perfect.

We've been lucky to work with Julie over the years on two homes in Mammoth, including a substantial additional to one. We're thrilled with what she achieved on each. Julie knows how to make a house feel tied into the mountains without looking dusty or cliché. She consistently comes up with great and unexpected ideas, has high–quality resources available to her, knows how everything will look (and whether it will or won't look good) before it's seriously considered, and knows how to deliver this within a budget. She steered us away from things we originally thought were "must haves," and are thankful that she did so! We'd definitely work with her again!

Dear Julie,

We just wanted to thank you for the great design work you did on our Solarium. Every time someone walks into our Mammoth home, they compliment us on what a great room it is. It’s warm and cozy and fits in perfectly with the feel for the rest of our house. You did a great job decorating it.

You made it very easy for us to work with you long distance. Even though we live primarily in the Los Angeles area, you sent or e–mailed us pictures of furniture, lighting, fabric samples, tile, etc. And when you sent it to us, you put packaged it in such a way that we could see how everything would look together. It gave us a much better image of the room, rather than just dealing with one individual piece at a time.

We also appreciated that you streamlined the selection process so that we weren’t overwhelmed by too many choices. Instead of just handing us a catalog and asking us to pick what we liked, you did the grunt work and selected what you thought would look best, gave us choices, and then we picked what we liked the most. It was a nice team effort.

Thanks for all your help. Feel free to refer prospective clients to us. We would love to give you a glowing recommendation.

We love how Julie pulled together our condo. While working with items we already had, she recovered furniture, updated bedding, changed rugs and changed the paint on the walls. The condo is beautiful!

You are welcome to tweak it if you like! I'm not the best with wording! But we do love it!

Just a quick note to say thank you for the beautiful job you did on our Solstice condo. I certainly appreciated that you brought the job in on budget and Lynn was extremely with your flexibility and diligence in pursuing her requested items. If we have further work in Mammoth we will surely contact you.
